ABSTUDY - secondary By providing a means-tested living allowance and other supplementary benefits to eligible Indigenous Australian secondary and tertiary students, (ABSTUDY) aims to increase the number of Indigenous Australian participating in school and post-secondary education and so enable Indigenous people to improve their educational outcomes. DEEWR is responsible for developing ABSTUDY policy while Centrelink deliver ABSTUDY.
English as a Second Language - Indigenous Language Speaking Students (ESL-ILSS) The ESL-ILSS programme aims to facilitate the entry of Indigenous students into education by providing intensive English language tuition to each eligible student. Indigenous Youth Leadership Program (IYLP) The Indigenous Youth leadership Program (IYLP) provides scholarships and leadership opportunities for young Indigenous people. The programme is a national initiative that will offer up to 250 scholarships to young Indigenous Australians 12 - 25 years of age undertaking secondary or tertiary studies within Australia.
The target is young Indigenous Australians from remote areas who have demonstrated potential leadership capability and want to develop their leadership skills with the support of both family and community. Tertiary scholarships offer $6000, secondary scholarships offer $15,000 per student per year. Indigenous Youth Mobility Programme (IYMP)
IYMP provides opportunities for 600 young Indigenous people from remote areas to relocate a major centres (Cairns, Townsville, Toowoomba, Newcastle, Dubbo, Canberra, Shepparton, Adelaide, Perth or Darwin) to take up training and employment opportunities (including New Apprenticeships, Certificate Courses and University). Submission based funding to schools and incorporated organisations, in partnership with parents and Indigenous communities to improve the educational outcomes Indigenous students through Homework Centres. Homework Centres provide a supervised and supported environment for improving the literacy and numeracy and the completion of homework and school assignments. Youth Pathways Youth Pathways aims to reduce the number of early school leavers who are not employed or in education in the 12 months after leaving school. The assistance provided to each participant is specific to their individual needs. Each participant receives an assessment that determines their individual needs, followed by the appropriate assistance which may include: personal development ; support to remain in or return to school; transition planning; preparation for participation in Job Network activities; referral to vocational education and training programmes and providers of other support services; as well as ongoing support throughout the service period.
