What Works is regarded as a 'sister project' of Dare to Lead and was launched at the same time as the Dare to Lead: Taking it on project (June 2003).

Dare to Lead has continued to promote What Works as a valuable resource for school leadership teams through the Action Areas, and the promotional material provided to the project from What Works is included in the new member packs of information. In addition, there have been opportunities for joint presentations to be conducted in response to school leaders' needs.

The Core Issues papers developed by What Works are a valuable resource for Dare to Lead leadership sessions. Dare to Lead State Coordinators have developed workshop materials around these documents and have conducted workshop sessions to school leaders in Action Areas as part of their leadership professional development programs.

Dare to Lead targets the school leader, develops the understanding and passion for action at the school level, and also maintains the collegiate support network and the leadership development as their interest and needs are explored. What Works is able to play a key role in engaging staff and school teams once the school leader's attention is engaged. The same focus underpins both projects, but the work done in synergy ensures that the efforts of the school leaders and their staff are focused, appropriate and sustainable.
