DARE TO LEAD EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP IN ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER AWARDS |
Applications will be open from the start of November and will remain open until February 28 2012, to give schools the best possible opportunity to submit an application during what is always a hectic time of year.
As always, the Awards will acknowledge 'distance travelled' for schools who have taken a strategic, data-driven approach to their planning for improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, or for reconciliation. Award recipient schools could receive up to $5000.
For full details about the process and to also read about last last year's award-winning schools please click here. Our Dare to Lead team knows from its work in schools during 2011 that there are many worthy recipients out there!
DARE TO LEAD PROFESSIONAL SERVICES 2012 |
Dare to Lead is now well-established as a provider not only of professional advice and support but also of professional services. While your school's Coalition membership will continue to provide schools and school leaders with access to discussion networks and professional learning opportunities, it will also give access to tailor-made and fee-for-service activities for those schools and networks who request specialised collegial support. This provides an opportunity to tap into the particular expertise and experience of Dare to Lead to support areas of need which have been identified by a school or group of schools. Very soon, we will provide you with details of the various professional services (including workshops, ongoing programs, coaching etc) which will be available in 2012.
One measure of the high professional regard for Dare to Lead is the number of partnerships which are in place with organisations and jurisdictions. In 2011, partnerships have included Education Queensland and some Education Queensland regions, New South Wales Department of Education and Training, Catholic Education Offices (in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia), Edmund Rice Education Australia, the education departments of Northern Territory, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and more, as well as DEEWR funding. Many of these formal partnerships with school systems are in the process of being renewed for 2012 and Dare to Lead continues to be grateful to its generous partners who show confidence in its collegial approach.
PARLIAMENT HOUSE WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM: DARE TO LEAD AS A PARTNER IN LEARN EARN LEGEND |
As one of four partner organisations working with DEEWR in undertaking this project, Dare to Lead sourced more than half of the 100+ students from across the country who attended the program in Canberra during a week in September. Students spent work experience time at Parliament House (with Ministers, MPs and Senators) and in government agencies, getting an up-close look at the wheels of government and a chance to set some personal aspiration targets. Keep an eye out for this same event again in 2013. It is becoming increasingly popular and will be in high demand!
PROFESSIONAL DISCUSSION STARTERS |
The next in the series of Professional Discussion Starters will arive to you very soon. We hope that you find these simple tools a useful stimulus for some of the important aspects of effective programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Invite discussion with your leadership team, your Aboriginal education team, at staff meetings, by distributing to all staff. There will be two Professional Discussion Starters sent before the years end.
