KARRATHA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, WA SCHOOL: Karratha Senior High School is a Government Year 8-12 school in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Of the school's approximately 700 students, 23 per cent are Indigenous.

PROGRAM: Gumala Mirnuwarni Education Project (GMEP). Approximately one-third of the school's Indigenous students are selected to participate in GMEP. Students are selected on the basis of their potential to succeed and complete secondary education. This project began in 1997 in partnership with the Graham Polly Farmer Foundation. Other stakeholders are the Aboriginal community and private and government partners. There are enrichment centres in Karratha and Roebourne available for student use four afternoons per week where tutoring is provided.
Support comes through:
- tutorial and vocational education assistance
- access to tertiary motivational programs
- leadership and study skill programs
- summer schools
