SCHOOL:
Rostrevor College is a Catholic boys' school in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide. Of its 1100 students from Reception to Year 12, 40 are Indigenous.
PROGRAMS:
The Rostrevor Indigenous Sports Academy was introduced in 2008. Its overall objective is to build on interest in sport to achieve significant improvement in Indigenous student levels of engagement and completion of the South Australian Certificate of Education. This initiative has increased the number of Indigenous students at the school to 35 in 2008, 40 in 2009 and a projected 45 in 2010. It also provides part-time access for up to 60 Indigenous students from other Adelaide schools to participate in a Sports VET program. Three additional Indigenous staff members have been employed to work at the Academy.
Rostrevor College is one of two South Australian schools chosen to provide the Indigenous Youth Leadership Program. Scholarships have been provided for Indigenous applicants who show potential to participate in tertiary education and be future leaders.
There is a strong pastoral program with particular attention to Indigenous students who board. There is a full-time Indigenous staff member in the College Boarding House. All Indigenous students are case managed, with key staff meeting fortnightly to monitor social and academic progress.
